These slurries form an impermeable thin layer (cake) on the sidewalls, so that the hydrostatic force of the slurry can act to stabilize trench walls by replacing the gradually removed soil.<\/p>\n<p>In the specific case of construction of waterproof diaphragm walls (bulkheads), the joint between two subsequent walls is sealed off by using a plastic joint (water-stop). The main difference is in the materials used and in the purpose of the works.<\/p>\n<p>The diaphragm walls are built <strong>without reinforcement cages and concrete<\/strong>: in fact, they are made up of the same bentonite slurry used for the excavation, which is then added to cement. The cement has the purpose to provide strength and an appropriate plasticity in order to ensure <strong>integrity over time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rather than structures, they can be considered ground lenses with improved geomechanical characteristics. They are perfect for waterproofing river dams, landfills sites, earth dam cores, and whenever it is preferred to eliminate water flows or fluids in general rather than the action of soil containment, typical of bulkheads. Worthy of note is the <strong>environmental value<\/strong> of this technique.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<div class=\"flex_column av_one_half  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-9  el_after_av_one_full  el_before_av_one_half  column-top-margin\" style='border-radius:0px;
