Project: Construction of a Bailey bridge over the Payee river along the roadway joining the city of Rumbeck and Yirol (South Sudan)

Execution period: 2005 – 2006

Description: The area around the town of Yirol was cut off from all communication lines with the rest of the world when the Payee river flooded during the rainy season. The connections has been restored thanks to a small barge, used to transport seriously ill people who could not be treated or recover in the cut off area.

Works performed: preparation of projects and materials (in Italy); preparation of the “base camp” to support the Italian workers; tracks and construction of micropiles; assembly of piles, abutments and bridge; construction of an embankment to protect the adjacent town.
